Dry January Can Continue All Year Long
- by LaShayla Simpson
Everyone has that friend or family member that gets teased because they don’t drink. These guests typically get left with soda, juice, or syrupy sweet punch while everyone else gets the cutely named holiday drinks or the drinks that are ordered neat or on the rocks. #1 The Magic Apple
This drink recipe is courtesy of Ritual, a whiskey alternative that boasts the same bold taste as the alcoholic version. The use of apple and cinnamon flavors in this drink are sure to remind the tongue of homemade desserts and the warmth of loved ones.
2 oz apple cider or apple juice
2 dashes bitters
Combine the first three ingredients in a tall glass with ice. Stir until cold. Pour over fresh ice, garnish with cinnamon stick and apple slice and serve.
#2 Shirley Ginger
Here’s a twist on a classic you might have ordered as a kid courtesy of Brooklyn Crafted Lemon Lime Ginger Beer. Remember the Shirley Temple? It was (clears throat) a certain generation's way of feeling like they were ordering something fancy when eating out. Well, here’s a grown up version that gives cocktail vibes with the addition of lemon, lime, and spicy ginger.
1 cup club soda
3 tbsp lime juice
¼ cup grenadine
Maraschino cherries (Optional)
Stir ginger beer, club soda, lime juice, and grenadine in a pitcher. Pour into tall glasses with ice. Garnish with lime rounds and/or maraschino cherries.
#3 Berry Burlesque
This deeply rich red mocktail has flavor galore, and maybe those mint leaves can double as mistletoe. Okay, that might be a stretch, but this mocktail can certainly get you in the mood for a kiss of sweetness.
.5 oz lime juice
.5 oz honey syrup
1 oz black currant purée
4-6 mint leaves
Q Ginger Beer (or ginger beer of your choice)
Combine and shake all ingredients except ginger beer in shaker tin with ice. Strain over fresh ice. Top with ginger beer.

#4 Hot Apple Cider
Spiked apple cider is usually a crowd pleaser. In this non-alcoholic version, tastebuds will be fooled with a warm butter-infused mocktail.
10 oz apple cider
1 tsp pumpkin butter
Heat apple cider and stir in pumpkin butter. Garnish with star anise and cinnamon.
